Manchester United have sent a special request to the Premier League to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to wear the number 7 shirt at the club, reports the Times.
The club have requested a special waiver from league management after the Portuguese completed his return to Old Trafford on Tuesday.
The Portugal international appropriated the number 7 jersey and wore the famous jersey on his first stop at Real Madrid’s Teatro de los Sueños (after the departure of legendary captain Raúl).
Edinson Cavani currently wears the shirt and can easily return it to Ronaldo, as the number 21 shirt is available after Daniel James leaves for Leeds.
Cavani uses the same number for his national team, Uruguay.
The Times claim United have already requested a special waiver to make the move possible.
United have racked up seven points in their first three games, beating Wolves and Leeds to a draw against Southampton.
