Cristiano Ronaldo has said legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was the “main key” behind his decision to return to the club.
The 36-year-old has made a sensational return to Old Trafford, having spent three years with Juventus.
Ronaldo spent six years with Ferguson before moving to Real Madrid in 2009.
However, the two remained close and Ferguson spoke with the player in the days leading up to his return to the Theater of Dreams.
“As everyone knows, since I joined Manchester [United] at 18, Sir Alex Ferguson was key.
“I remember when we played against Manchester when I was at Sporting Lisbon. Sir Alex Ferguson is like a father in football to me.
“It helped me a lot, it taught me a lot of things. In my opinion of course he played a big role because of the relationship we had, we keep in touch all the time and he’s an amazing person.
“I really like him a lot and that was the main key to being in the position that I am, that I signed for Manchester United,” Ronaldo told MUTV.
